  REVIEW:

The Invasion . . . or, as it’s referred to by the White House staff, “Tuesdays.”

This movie has been done at least three previous times, but this one stars Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig.  The falling debris from a space shuttle accident brings with it pieces of alien organisms.  These alien organisms are here to take over the human race and they plan to do it when we sleep.  When Nicole and Daniel’s characters discover what is happening, they have only one priority and that’s to get Nicole’s son back from her ex-husband.  Unfortunately, Nicole’s character has been infected so at all costs she must remain awake until they can find a cure to eradicate the alien race.  It’s a race against time to find the cure and to avoid being “changed” like all the others.

While the concept of The Invasion is an interesting one, it obviously has been explored countless times before in the movies.  Still, it makes for a somewhat thrilling story – a story made almost compelling by strong acting.  Though her Australian accent sneaks through a few times, Nicole Kidman offers a convincing performance.  And, Daniel Craig does well enough that there’s virtually no chance of his character being confused with James Bond.  However, the movie isn’t particularly well crafted.  Numerous re-shoots and endless editing are the apparent cause of the movie’s incredible disjoint nature.  Monumental moments in the story are barely addressed, while some scenes seemingly add nothing and look to be completely out of place.  There are also some random examples of flashbacks and other plot devices which serve only to confuse and annoy.  The concept and acting alone may be enough to make The Invasion worthwhile for some, but the movie falls far short of what it could have been.

  MOVIE NIGHT TRAFFIC LIGHT:

On the Movie Night Traffic Light on a scale of GREEN meaning “Go – it’s a must see”, YELLOW meaning “Caution – it’s okay” and RED meaning “No - stop don’t do it."

We rate Invasion YELLOW.  This is just okay.
